We invite you to join us at Haymaker (http://www.haymakeraustin.com/) for their second annual Fourth of July Pickled Egg Eating Contest. All entry fees and a portion of sales that day go to support Chula League’s Little Artist BIG ARTIST (LaBA) program (http://chulaleague.org/little-artist-big-artist) . The competition starts at 4:30pm. For the $20 entry fee, each contestant gets a commemorative Fourth of July t-shirt and drink of choice, and the winner will receive a $250 prize. See you there!

Be sure to visit Ney’s studio, the oldest art building in town. Enjoy the Yes Ma’am Bass Band, Elizabeth McQueen, Tiarra Girls, sculpting demos, food trucks, clay crafting, bookmaking, and more! 2015 LITTLE + BIG ARTISTS

5th and 6th grade artists from East Austin debuted their spring projects April 23 at ReNEW East @ Imagine Art. Family, friends, art teachers, and BIG ARTISTS cheered on the Little Artists at the opening reception to celebrate a productive semester and view their artwork in a real gallery just like professional artists.

Every spring, 5th and 6th grade “Little Artists” learn how art — such as pottery, painting, and photography — moves from a budding idea to the marketplace. “BIG ARTISTS” provide their time and professional experience as working artists to guide their Little Artists to envision, plan, and create at least two pieces of artwork during the semester. Both pieces are featured in the spring exhibit, along with a journal of their creative experiences together and a piece by their BIG ARTIST.
* “LaBA is about artist mentors connecting with 5th and 6th graders through art. We provide the program at no cost to the families or schools involved, working directly in the their communities,” says LaBA Program Coordinator Jennifer Ramos. “With the support of Cherrywood Art Fair, Amplify Austin, and wonderful artists and teachers who participate, we hope to continue to grow the program because art should be accessible to everyone.”

It is not uncommon for our mentors to keep in touch with their Little Artists after the program is over, continuing to encourage their artistic growth. Inspiration truly goes both ways. Come join us for the opening reception to celebrate the hard work of our Little Artists and BIG ARTISTS. You just might find yourself discovering one of Austin’s future big names in art!

Artwork will be professionally displayed Mondays–Fridays, April 23–May 7, 9am–4pm with performances by student ukulele and recorder music ensembles from the participating schools at the 4/23 opening.

ReNEW East is home to Imagine Art, a non-profit arts incubator serving artists with disabilities on the East side.

In 2008, the Little Artist BIG ARTIST program had only 1 participating school, 5 fifth graders and 5 BIG ARTISTS. Last year, we had three participating schools, 24 kids and 21 BIG ARTISTS! Next year, we’d like to grow this program and expand to 5 schools.

Your gift of $25
will fund 1 hour of free arts mentoring for a little artist and professional BIG ARTIST.

Your gift of $50
will go towards the cost of art supplies for one LaBA pair during their 10 week collaboration in an afterschool setting.

Your gift of $150
will pay for one translator (per school) to work with little artist households whose primary language is Spanish.

Your gift of $400 or more
will fully sponsor one student’s participation in the LaBA program where they will learn to celebrate creativity, develop personal and artistic expression and, most importantly, create art!
