5 questions for Big Artist Emily Cano

Sweet Ink Collective

We’re asking our Big Artists five quick questions to find out how they feel about mentoring Little Artists.

Next up: Emily Cano of Sweet Ink Collective, who specializes in printed paper and clothing goods.

How long have you been a Big Artist?

This is my first year doing it!

What is your favorite thing about the program?

Being able to share my passion with someone. I have also really enjoyed getting to know my Little Artist Emma. She has opened my mind to things I forgot about, maybe because it’s been awhile since I was her age.

What is it about teaching and mentoring that makes you happy?

I enjoy both because you are not only able to share your passion but you’re able to connect with someone in a positive way. I think of the people who impacted my life and helped direct me down a path where I was able to reach my dreams. I would hope that mentoring Little Artists would motivate them to follow their dreams and desires.

When you were a kid, did you have a mentor or someone who gave you a push toward art?

I was artistic from a very young age. My parents were always willing to buy art supplies and facilitate outlets (classes or camps) in order to help me grow artistically. They never discouraged me from being creative. I really appreciate that they allowed me to be myself.

Where can people find your work?

I sell at a few stores in town, including Atown and Limbo. You can also find my full line online: www.sweetinkcollective.com
